On May 7 and 8, the Sebrae Center for Sustainability (CSS), part of the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Businesses in the State of Mato Grosso (Sebrae/MT), will host the sixth edition of the International Conference on Sustainability for Small Businesses (Ciclos). The event marks the first major discussion focused on the role of entrepreneurship in addressing climate change, ahead of the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP-30), scheduled for November in Belém, Brazil.
This year’s Ciclos will take place at the auditorium of Sebrae’s headquarters in Brasília, with live streaming available on the event official YouTube channel. The agenda includes key topics such as: climate adaptation, green financing, emission reduction strategies, and carbon compensation — focusing on exploring both the challenges and opportunities small businesses face in the transition toward sustainability all over the world.
Confirmed speakers include climate scientist and member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, José Antonio Marengo Orsini, and sustainability consultant Linda Murasawa, director at Fractal Consultoria. Panel discussions will feature notable figures such as Pedro Prata, policy and institutions manager for Latin America at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and Carla Tennenbaum, founder of Ideia Circular.

According to André Schelini, Technical Director at Sebrae/MT, the event comes at a pivotal moment when global attention is increasingly focused on climate change, with COP-30 as a driving force.
“Ciclos is more than just a conference — it’s a call to action. We’re at a turning point where small businesses in Brazil must take the lead in the climate agenda. Not only out of responsibility but also due to the enormous opportunity to innovate and thrive within the emerging green economy”, said Schelini.
“Sebrae has been working strategically toward COP-30, building networks, knowledge, and solutions to help entrepreneurs adapt to global demands, boost their resilience, and play an active role in shaping a sustainable future. This isn’t just about minimizing harm — it’s about driving real change”, concluded.
Patrícia Pedrotti, Manager of the Sebrae Center for Sustainability, emphasized the importance of the congress in advancing the sustainability dialogue nationwide. “The event is designed to help businesses build resilience against climate impacts, encourage the shift toward a low-carbon economy, and empower entrepreneurs — especially those running micro and small enterprises — to align with national and global climate goals”, she stated.
The international congress is the first in a series of initiatives planned by the Sebrae System as part of its roadmap to COP-30. Additional events are scheduled as part of this broader strategy:
· Inova Amazônia Summit – from May 21 to 23, Macapá;
· StartUp Summit – from August 27 to 29, Florianópolis;
· Amazon Tech – from September 4 to 6, Boa Vista;
· Semana do Futuro – from September 17 to 19, Cuiabá.
